After a year off, the Belmont Day wrestling program returns this winter with a record number of participants. Fifteen athletes will take to the mat for the Blue & Gold under the direction of first-year head coach, Andrew Bolte.
Seventh Graders Tackle Info Gaps in Math
Students in seventh grade math engaged in their first “Info. Gap” activity of the year. The Info Gap structure requires students to make sense of problems by determining what information is necessary, and then to ask for the information they need to solve it.
Arts Update: Fifth Graders Learn Voice Elements
Fifth graders in theater class have been learning about the six elements of voice and vocal projection. Vocal warm-ups were a fun way for students to learn proper breath control and articulation.
Last weekend the cross country team traveled out to Devens, Mass. to participate in the State Invitational. Among the hundreds of runners from across the state, the Blue & Gold were easy to spot thanks to their bright gold jerseys, vocal support of their teammates, and strong finishes across all races.
Spanish Students Learn Traditions of Day of the Dead
El Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition to celebrate life and honor the loved ones who have died. The holiday is celebrated from October 31 through November 2. Spanish students at BDS celebrated and honored this tradition; we watched videos and engaged in different activities.
The field hockey team improved to 3-4 on the season following a commanding win over Charles River this week.
With three one-goal losses on the season, girls’ soccer’s 2-4 record doesn’t tell the full story of the team’s fall campaign. A talented squad led by a handful of eighth grade standouts, the team has been competitive in every game they’ve played and is primed for a big performance at Friday Night Lights.
360 Degrees of Discussion in Sixth Grade
Students in sixth grade English observed and practiced discussion skills with a “fishbowl” protocol. Five brave “fish” sat in the center of the room to discuss a question from the current book we’re reading in class, The Giver by Lois Lowry while their classmates observed the dynamics of the discussion.
PE Update: Some Pain, A Lot of Gain
When your workplace involves dynamic action, flying projectiles, and blistering speed, there are bound to be some bumps and bruises. Though we never like to see one of our students get hurt, learning to deal with injuries is part of physical education and an opportunity for growth and insight.
The boys’ soccer team traveled to Carroll this week and returned with their first win of the season. After opening their campaign with a close loss to DCD, the team was on the wrong end of some lopsided scores to Park and Pike before turning things around this week.
