Sixth Grade Sparks Hope for the New Year
Continuing a tradition started 15 years ago by Ms. Moriarty and Mr. Spencer, sixth grade students and their teachers gathered Wednesday morning to say a fiery goodbye to things from the past year we want to leave behind, each symbolically burning our own personal lists. Mistakes, regrets, annoyances, bad habits all went into the fire.
Betel Zewude’s stellar serving led the Gold squad to a definitive 2-0 win over White in volleyball’s first intramural contest this winter. Kesariya Nallari-Jhala chipped in with great touches for the victors, while Eike Kiecza led the White squad with strong play at the net.
Despite the two-week pause on interscholastic competition, the Blue & Gold fencing team took to the strips this Thursday and squared off against each other in an intramural meet. Under the direction of Coach Solomon, the team competed in all three weapons.
Our 2021-22 cohort of eight associate teachers have excelled during their classroom placements through the first part of the school year. As we return from winter break and begin the winter and spring portion of the school year, each associate will move to a second placement. Associates will stay in these placements with
Eighth grader Nikos Axiotis, a veteran on the wrestling team, was on his back, down by one point, with under 10 seconds left in his match. With his hopes of a win ticking away, Nikos executed a perfect two-point reversal as time expired and emerged with a huge win over one of Milton’s best wrestlers.
Kindergartners Embrace Technology Lessons
In our first unit of technology class, kindergarten students have been introduced to early programming concepts. They have explored using individual commands, both with other learners and as part of a computer program.
Spanish teacher Ana Maria Restrepo’s lesson from earlier this fall with seventh graders was recently featured in an article online by Teaching Central America. The lesson, taught as part of Teach Central America Week in early October, focused on clothing design in Guatemala and the influence and history of Mayan culture. Click here to
Fifth Grade Explores Mind Mapping
In fifth grade humanities, we just completed a unit in which we read and analyzed the novel Morning Girl by Michael Dorris. At the end of Morning Girl was a primary document from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
The varsity basketball teams opened up the winter season on Thursday with a pair of games against Park. The boys came out of the gates slow, yielding four straight buckets to open the game, and trailed at the half by over 20. The girls flipped the script and jumped out fast, taking a commanding 12-point lead into the break.
Eighth Grade Latin Students Translate a Bear of a Tale
This week, the eighth grade Latin students gathered in a circle to begin the activity of translating a story together with only minimal guidance along the way from their teacher. The students teamed up in the discussion and translation of a story called ‘rex spectaculum dat’ (The King Puts on a Show).
