Fifth Grade Studies, Researches the Immigrant Experience
Over the past couple of weeks in fifth grade humanities, students have been learning about immigration, specifically the immigration station, Angel Island. During the fifth graders’ most recent project, each student created their own questions and interviewed someone about their immigration experience.
Weather Report: It’s Cloudy and Breezy in Pre-Kindergarten
Over the past two weeks, our pre-kindergartners have been learning about wind and clouds. We began by reading books about wind to learn what wind can do and how it changes. In the classroom, we used fans to experiment with different objects to determine what makes something easy for the wind to move.
Kindergarten: 100 Days Smarter!
All year long, students in both kindergarten cohorts have been tracking how many days we have been in school using ten frames and numerals. This past Tuesday, kindergarten celebrated an exciting achievement–their 100th day of school! On that day, students and teachers who were interested in doing so came to school dressed up as if they were 100 years old or centenarians, as we learned that they are called!
Fifth Grade Takes This Science Lesson To Heart
Fifth graders are continuing their studies of the circulatory system as part of their year-long exploration of the human body and its systems. Students have learned the names and functions of the different parts of the human heart and diagrammed how blood flows through the heart, lungs, and body.
Third Graders Are As Happy As Clams About Similes
Recently in third grade, students dove into an exploration of similes. We read My Dog is as Smelly as Dirty Socks by Hanoch Piven to illustrate how similes can be used as powerful description tools.

Seventh Grade Math Digs Into Proportions & Percents
In unit 4 of their math class recently, seventh grade students have been studying proportional relationships and percents. After revisiting proportional relationships, the bulk of the unit dives into percent increase and decrease and real-world applications of these topics.
