After a winter season devoted to fitness, the spring coaches continue to make it a priority during their sport-specific offerings.
For the first time since May 2019 lacrosse is back at Belmont Day and Coach Abbey Nyland couldn’t be happier. The first spring athletics session brought nearly 20 sixth grade athletes to the field and the group has been getting after it.
Mountain biking was introduced to Belmont Day seven years ago as a middle school club. The club met once a week and was limited to experienced riders who owned their own bike. Despite its success, the program remained an exclusive activity with limited participation. This year, under the leadership of second-year physical education and athletics teacher Alex Tzelnic, mountain biking has grown into a full athletics offering, and, like the rest of Belmont Day’s middle school sports, is open to all students regardless of experience or equipment.
After a winter season indoors competing only amongst their cohorts, the change of season will be welcomed by all.
Middle school athletes are finishing strong …
Sixth graders Perin Fine and Aleta Sandoski attacked the agility circuit in athletics this week with purpose.
Belmont Day’s resident groundhog (sightings have been made on Claflin Field) apparently saw his shadow because there are another five weeks of the winter athletics season on tap for our middle school students.
The Hannum Advisory’s eighth grade athletes have brought their very best day-in and day-out all winter long.
Some unplanned sledding brought exercise and great joy to Claflin Field.
Every six days, students rotate through Coach Tzelnic’s mindful yoga practice.
