Admissions Process

Step One: Request Information

Complete our online inquiry form to receive informational materials by mail and email updates about the admissions process and upcoming events.

Step Two: Schedule a Campus Tour

Campus tours, led by volunteer parents eager to get to know you and answer your questions, are highly encouraged. A tour is the best way to see our teaching and learning in action, meet community members, and get a feel for our campus. While bringing students along is optional, we encourage you to bring your upper elementary or middle school students, as it’s a great chance for them to see our vibrant community and envision their future here. Tours last 45 to 60 minutes.

At Belmont Day, the interview is not paired with the tour. We intentionally separate these two steps so families can familiarize themselves with our school before having a more in-depth conversation with a member of the admissions team.

Step Three: Submit a Preliminary Application by January 10, 2025

Create a Ravenna account at www.ravenna-hub.com. Once logged in, complete your demographic information, select Boston Area from the regional school drop-down menu, and choose Belmont Day School from the list of schools.

Please complete and submit the preliminary application by our deadline of Friday, January 10, 2025. The application fee is $50. If the fee is a barrier for your family, please contact the admissions office at [email protected] to request a fee waiver.

Step Four: Schedule and Complete a Parent/Guardian Interview

After you have submitted a preliminary application, please email [email protected] to schedule a parent/guardian interview. Our interviews are 45 minutes long and conducted over Zoom. Students are not present for these meetings. We look forward to getting to know more about your student and family.

We recommend that families complete their on-campus tour before interviewing.

Step Five: Complete the Application by January 31, 2025

Please ensure all of the following components are completed and submitted through Ravenna by our application deadline of Friday, January 31, 2025. More detailed instructions for each component are outlined in Ravenna.

To be completed by the parent/guardian and student:

  • Parent/guardian statement
  • Student questionnaire and essay for students applying to grades 6 and 7 only
  • Complete the Boston Area Virtual Evaluation (BAVE) videos for students applying to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten only. Instructions are available in Ravenna.

To be completed and submitted by school personnel at the request of the parent/guardian:

  • Teacher recommendation(s)
  • Transcripts and/or student reports (as applicable)
Step Six: Attend Student Assessment Event(s)

All applicants must participate in the following required events.

Student Assessment Day* for all applicants
Friday, January 24, 2025

  • Families must register for this event through Ravenna. Students will be invited to campus at a time determined by their grade level.
  • In the weeks before the event, more information about what to expect on assessment day and your assigned time will be shared.

Virtual Literacy Evaluation for Applicants to Grades 1 to 5

  • Grades 1 and 2: Saturday, January 18, 2025 (a 15-minute time slot will be assigned)
  • Grades 3, 4, and 5: Saturday, January 25, 2025 (a 30-minute time slot will be assigned)

*Instead of the ISEE/SSAT, Belmont Day proctors a customized assessment aligned with the BDS curriculum and grade-level standards. This decision reflects our school’s commitment to accessibility, as the scheduling logistics and cost for external testing can be prohibitive. While bringing your student/s along is optional, we do encourage you to bring your upper elementary or middle school student/s as it’s a great chance for them to see our vibrant community and envision their future here.
